Birch Island Lake Association

5-27-06 Meeting of the Membership

9 a.m., Lakeside Community Lutheran Church

 The meeting was called to order by President Steve Hemping

*      A presentation was given by Chris Wunrow, Wisconsin DNR.

Chris reviewed Wisconsin boating regulations, particularly PFD and fire extinguisher regulations.  He reminded members that anyone born after 1989 and between the ages of 12-15 can operate a boat with an adult and alone if they have had boating safety classes.  Check the DNR website for details. 

*      The minutes from the last meeting were reported by Secretary Gayle Teskey.  A motion to accept the minutes was made by Dick Kirby, seconded by Alan Eidness, and unanimously accepted. 

*      Treasurer’s report was presented by Treasurer Tom Schneiberg.  A motion to accept the treasurer’s report was made by Pat Glerum and unanimously accepted. 

*      President Hemping asked for and received approval of the Board of Directors Election and By-Laws clarification (attached).  Motion to accept by Alan Eidness and seconded by Kim Dropps.   

*      Four board positions were open for election.  Ballots were provided to members.  The following were elected:

President:

Steve Hemping (May 2004-May 2006 term completed; running for re-election for new two-year term)

Vice President:

Mick Peterson (May 2004 to May 2006 term completed; running for re-election for new two-year term)

Director-at-Large:

Norine Hemping (May 2004-2006 term completed; running for re-election for new two-year term

Director-at-Large:

Mary Kirby (first term) 

Frank Streine moved for approval, seconded by Dick Kirby.  Passed unanimously. 

*      Standing committees were reviewed and volunteers were requested.  Following is the list of the resulting committees and members: 

Boating & Water Safety Committee:

Chairperson - Mick Peterson

Committee members:  Karl Auleciems, Jerri Cobb, Tom Bro, Peter Cree, Doug Zimmerman 

Water Quality Committee:

Chairperson - Barry Borman

Committee Members: Arlene Borman, Chuck & Mary Speerschneider, Dick Reinhart, Mark Sonderup, Tom Schneiberg, Don & Nona Stamp, Lee Johnson, Travis Blair, Al Streff, Kris Landis, Lawrence Blair

            Invasive Species Monitoring:

            Purple Loosestrife:  Al & Debbie Poncin

            Eurasian Milfoil:  Tom Schneiberg 

            Lake Cleanup:

                        Boat Landing:

                        Voyager Shoreland:  Travis Blair  

Social Committee:

Chairperson - Meghan Melin

Committee Members: Bruce & Laritta Swanson, Pat Glerum 

Frank Streine moved to approve the committees as listed; Pat Glerum seconded. 

*      Old Business: 

Water Quality Progress:

-         Barry Borman was unable to attend in person but sent a report, which was read to the members (attached) 

Membership Drive Report:

-         Last year’s drive was successful; this year’s drive is word-of-mouth 

BILA Website

-         Tom Schneiberg will assume responsibility for the site from Frank Streine 

*      New Business:

 Ice Cream Social

BILA members recognized Dee Streine for her years of organizing the Ice Cream Social.

 Village Players

An announcement was given about the summer performance and discount ticket opportunities.

Birch Island Cross Country Ski Club

Betty Paskausky introduced the new Cross Country Ski Club and asked for donations of goods for the Garage Sale to be held June 23/24.

 Meeting concluded, MSC (Motion made: Colleen Johnson, seconded Diane Gilbertson).  Next meeting:  Saturday, September 2nd, 2006, 9 a.m. Lakeside Community Lutheran Church.
